The Egg Lesson

The burner was set just above a medium heat.  A dollop of butter was melting in his favorite two egg pan at a slow rate so it wouldn’t brown the egg, which would be my trademark egg. Earl cracked a couple eggs into the pan and patiently watched them go from clear and jelly to white and with a slightly firmer yoke, then he did it.

“How do you do that?” We’d always ask him.  

“Confidence, you can’t be afraid.”

With the next egg, one of his onlookers volunteered and grasped the pan handle then hesitated.

“Can’t do that, you have to go for it.”  Earl takes over the pan and, again, expertly flips the eggs.

Perfect.  “It’s in the commitment.  Once you start the pull back of the pan, and you see the egg slide forward, you have to keep the speed. Stay with it.  Finish it through.”

Another valuable lesson taught by Earl.  The beauty was, he never saw anything he did as a lesson.  Earl would just do something, know the opponent, find a strategy and see it to fruition.

Earl was my teacher. My mentor.  My husband and the love of my life. I’m still learning from him.

None of us watching him flip eggs, succeeded.  We just couldn’t break the fear of an egg landing on the floor.

That’s the wall that keeps anyone from succeeding. Fear, such a barrier will keep you standing at the stove with an egg in your pan.  You’ll never eat!  You’ll starve if you don’t believe in yourself and dare the flip.

God wants us to succeed and He is with us should we fail and need encouragement to try again.

He’s got this. 

When we failed at the garden of Eden, that perfect place He intended for us to be in fellowship with Him, He was there with the next plan, forgiveness.  He forgives us of our faults, when we ask. His plan has always been for us to fellowship with Him, to trust Him with our future.

He wants us to succeed. Jeremiah 29:11 “ I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosperThe you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

Sounds good to me, now I just need to live it. First step, go to the stove and flip an egg.

That idea you have had running around in your head and have been hesitant about trying, go do it.  Do it with confidence. Do it with commitment. Do it with God on your side.  Do it with prayer and trust.  Do it to fruition.
